Breck bus routes to change
BRECKENRIDGE – Breckenridge’s transit department will change some of its bus routes beginning Saturday in preparation for the move of the town’s transit center to the Watson Street parking lot.”We want to get the public trained (before the ski season,) and we want to get our drivers trained,” said transit director Jim Benkelman. “This will give us good, busy summer ridership data so we can see if there are any trends or changes.”Most of the routes will remain intact, but nearly all the stop times will change. The town is moving its transit center from F-lot on Park Avenue to the south end of the Watson lot as part of the plan to build an intermodal transit center at the location. The center is under construction.Breckenridge Ski Resort buses used the new location as a drop-off site last ski season. Changes include:- Operations will be based in the new intermodal center lot. F-lot will now merely serve as a stop on all but the brown route.- The Blue Route: This bus leaves the Breckenridge Station intermodal center at the top of the hour from 6:30 a.m. The last bus leaves at 11 p.m. New stops include City Market, Val d’Isere, Ski and Racquet Club and Little Red Schoolhouse. Stops on Harris Street, F-lot, town hall and The Drug Store have been eliminated.- The Yellow Route: This bus departs the intermodal center at the top and bottom of the hour from 6:30 a.m. The last departure is at 11:30 p.m. This bus will service the Valley Brook parking lot on Valley Brook Road when needed – most likely during the ski season and during popular events.- The Orange Route: This bus departs the intermodal center at the top and bottom of each hour beginning at 6:30 p.m. The last bus leaves at 11:30 p.m. This route will now serve Ski and Racquet Club.- The Brown Route: This bus departs the intermodal center at the top and bottom of the hour from 6:30 a.m. The last departure is at 11:30 p.m. The primary change here is that service will be added to the Four O’Clock Road and Beaver Run areas. The Ski and Racquet Club and F-lot stops have been eliminated.New route maps will be printed in August.”This actually should be pretty easy,” Benkelman said. “I think people who live here will figure it out pretty quick.”Benkelman is soliciting feedback from riders so he can adjust routes or schedules as needed before the ski season begins. He can be reached at (970) 547-3153 or e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. Additional information, including new stop times, can be found on http://www.townofbreckenridge.com.- Jane Stebbins
