Breck Film to screen ‘The Weight of Gold’ Tuesday with panel of special guests

Breck Film is screening “The Weight of Gold” Tuesday, Aug. 9. It is the last Breck Film Society screening of the year and will feature a panel after the movie.

The final Breck Film Society event of the year is slated for Tuesday, Aug, 9. Guests will be able to see “The Weight of Gold” documentary at The Eclipse Theater, 103 S. Harris St., with a panel following the screening.

The film showcases the mental health challenges faced by elite athletes like Michael Phelps, Apolo Ohno and Shaun White. According to a news release, it seeks to inspire discussion about mental health issues, encourage people to seek help and highlight the need for readily available support.

On the panel will be filmmaker Brett Rapkin, professional snowboarder Steve Fisher, SuppleMental Sports founder Ashley Hughes and Mackenzie St. Onge, head of athlete education at U.S. Ski and Snowboard. 



Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the screening starts at 7 p.m. The event is a minimum $8 donation and free to members. Proceeds over $8 will be split between Podium Pictures and Building Hope Summit County to support a new docuseries highlighting mental health challenges in sports.
