Breckenridge considers adding bus stops to Breckenridge Free Ride

Breckenridge Town Council hears proposed changes to certain bus routes.

Information about proposed changes to the Breckenridge Free Ride bus system were presented by Shaida Libhart, of Traffic Engineers, with which the town is contracting. Among the proposed changes are new names for various routes, including the Purple Route. Those changes are only proposed at this time.

BRECKENRIDGE — At Breckenridge Town Council’s Tuesday, Nov. 12, work session, council was presented with a potential new transit plan for the Breckenridge Free Ride buses.

Shaida Libhart — of Traffic Engineers, with which the town is contracting for its Transit Master Plan — explained the proposed changes are intended to provide clear information, make public transit the first choice for people to get around Breckenridge and keep the town moving on busy days. 

“Even though there is a really efficient network, there are some places where we can improve,” Libhart said.

Libhart explained to council what Public Works knows about the current system, including:

  • People use public transit because of parking
  • The ski area is a top destination
  • Bus stop signs are key points of information for potential riders
  • A higher frequency of bus pickups would encourage more riders

The proposed changes to the Yellow Route, which will be renamed the Airport Route, include serving City Market in both directions and adding frequent service from Beaver Run loop to and from Breck Station.

The Purple Route, which could be renamed to the Wellington Route, is also proposed to serve City Market and be simplified to a counterclockwise-only route. The route would be serviced more frequently only at peak times.

The presentation ended with Libhart agreeing to bring more data to council before a final decision is reached.
