Breckenridge hosts week of events to raise ski safety awareness

Daily News staff report

Breckenridge Ski Resort, in conjunction with National Ski Area Association’s National Safety Week, hosts Breck Safety Week today through Jan. 25. Several events are scheduled throughout the week to educate and remind guests of the Skier Responsibility Code so they can enjoy a safe experience on the slopes. Other events will focus on avalanche awareness and safety.

Events offered today, Sunday and Monday by mountain safety personnel and ski patrollers include helmet fitting, an avalauncher demonstration on Peak 7 and an avalanche dog demonstration on Peak 8. Weather permitting, Flight for Life will land on the mountain on Monday afternoon. Guests will also have the chance to stop by the open house at all ski patrol huts and meet patrol members, as well as perform trail checks and end-of-the-day sweeps. A safety tent at the Peak 8 base area will provide a place to learn more about the responsibility code and enter a raffle for prizes.
