Breckenridge Main Street closes today for Avon Walk

BRECKENRIDGE – Main Street will be closed today from Lincoln Avenue to Jefferson Street to make way for 1,600 participants finishing the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.

The closure is to occur from 7 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., according to an e-mail from the Town of Breckenridge.

Participants walked up to 26.2 miles on Saturday, from Keystone to Frisco, and are expected to walk 13.1 miles today from Frisco to Breckenridge. The Avon Walk series, which launched nationwide in 2003, requires walkers to commit to raise at least $1,800. The Avon Foundation for Women distributes funds raised to local, regional and national breast cancer organizations.

The festivities in Breckenridge are to include a main stage with awards and entertainment as well as support services including first aid. There will be no meal or beverage sales at this event, as residents are encouraged to enjoy the downtown area.
