BRECKENRIDGE ” A 20-year-old Breckenridge resident has been upgraded to serious condition following a motorcycle crash in Breckenridge last week.

Jay Katz was driving on Moonstone Road near High Point Drive at about 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, when he drove off the right side of the roadway and collided with a utility pole, according to a Colorado State Patrol accident report.

He hit the pole head first and was not wearing a helmet, the report said.

Katz was taken via Flight For Life to St. Anthony Central in Denver, where he was listed in critical condition. On Thursday, he was upgraded to serious condition, said public information officer Trooper Eric Wynn.

Wynn did not know the extent of Katz’s injuries, though he said he did believe there was head trauma involved.

Alcohol was not considered to be a factor in the crash, although excessive speed may have been involved, the report said.

State Patrol investigators are gathering evidence and are expected to make a final determination of the cause of the crash.
