Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center awarded federal VA grant

FRISCO — Rep. Joe Neguse announced in mid-October that Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center would receive a grant from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to fund adaptive sports programs for disabled veterans, according to a news release.

The Outdoor Education Center is among 14 Colorado organizations to be awarded Adaptive Sports Grant Program funding. Across the country, 126 grant recipients received $14.8 million as part of the program.

Outdoor Education Center representatives said the organization couldn’t comment on the exact amount of the award but said it gets an estimated $100,000 annually from the federal government, about 10% of its budget.

The funds can be used for planning, developing, managing and implementing adaptive sports programs, according to the release.
