Breckenridge: Peaks Trailhead parking not for skiers, boarders

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office has received complaints about skiers and snowboarders parking at the Peaks Trailhead on Ski Hill Road near the Breckenridge Ski Resort Peak 7 station. In response, the sheriff’s office, resort and Forest Service will be increasing enforcement in the area, which is reserved parking for people using the trail.

“We hate to have to start ticketing,” Sheriff John Minor stated in a release. “We’ve done so in the past, but we run the risk of ticketing folks who are using the trailhead parking legitimately. If it’s an obvious violation, we will issue a citation, and the ski area and the Forest Service have been very willing to help us monitor the area.”

Parking for the ski resort is available in town at two paid parking lots within walking distance of the Breck Connect gondola, which services Peak 7 and 8, as well as at a free satellite lot on Airport Road north of town. There is regular bus service from the satellite lots to the gondola throughout the day.
