BRECKENRIDGE – The holiday season kicks off Saturday with the Lighting of Breckenridge, where Santa Claus is expected to lead carolers down Main Street to the lighting of the town tree.

The lighting begins at 4:30 p.m. at Subway on the north end of Main Street, where free cocoa and cookies are to be available. Santa is to arrive in a horse-drawn carriage at 5 p.m., leading the singing group of town guests and residents down the street, according to a press release from Breckenridge Resort Chamber.

The procession is to pause at Blue River Plaza, where Santa lights a tree before leading the group to Main Street Station for visits and photos, with music by the Summit High School Choir.

“This event truly embodies the Yuletide season and gets everybody in the holiday spirit,” according to the press release.

Quandary Grill and the town’s new German restaurant, Fritz and Franz, are to host the lighting’s after-party with drinks and entertainment.

Attendees are encouraged to bring donations to the Family Intercultural Resource Center food bank. The nonperishables may be collected at the Red, White and Blue firehouse or other sites along Main Street.

Saturday’s festivities begin at 2 p.m. at the Red, White and Blue firehouse with storytelling by local firefighters and a free craft workshop.
