Breckenridge resident Leigh Sargent is seeking a seat on the Summit Board of Education in the upcoming election on Nov. 7.

Leigh, who moved to Breckenridge in 2018, is an entrepreneur who founded an aerospace company, Applied Composites Engineering in 1982, among other ventures.

In a written statement submitted to the Summit Daily News, Leigh stated he is concerned about the Summit School District’s challenges — both financially and in regard to students’ academic success. He stated his understanding of business and prior education experience, which includes an apprenticeship in his home city of Melbourne, Australia, positions him to serve the district.

In total, four board seats are up for election this November, with eight candidates announced so far.
