Breckenridge Ski Resort closed to skinners during early season

summit daily news

BRECKENRIDGE – Skinners and hikers won’t be allowed on Breckenridge Ski Resort’s trails until mountain preparation work is through.

Winch cat operations under way make it unsafe for public access, and the preparation work may extend beyond the resort’s Nov. 12 opening.

“Closed” signs will be placed at the bottom of areas unavailable for uphill access, and the trails will be open for uphillers once the preparation work is finished.

Anyone accessing the mountain before or after normal hours must contact the grooming department or call winch cat operations at (970) 547-5627.

Skier parking won’t be available at the Peak 8 base, but early-morning skinners will be able to park in the Gondola South Lot and use Breckenridge Free Ride’s Black Route bus or park in the Beaver Run Lot.

Skinners may stop by the Beaver Run Lot booth after 7 a.m. to pick up parking placards to prevent towing. The passes may not be used as regular parking passes; skinners must leave Beaver Run Lot by 8 a.m. and the Gondola South Lot by 8:30 a.m.

For more information regarding uphill access call Breckenridge Ski Patrol at (970) 496-7292.
