NICOLE FORMOSA

BRECKENRIDGE – The manager of A Big Hit snowboard shop on Breckenridge’s Main Street discovered Thursday morning that the store had been burglarized, according to a report from the Breckenridge Police Department. The manager arrived at the shop at 9:30 a.m. Thursday and found the alarm blinking. He also noticed that the front door was open. The responding officer saw that the shop’s front door had been pried open and found four pins on the floor that had been removed from the outside door hinges. Part of the deadbolt was lying next to the pins, and the wood frame around the door lock was scratched. The manager noticed that a down jacket worth about $370 was missing from one of the clothing racks.Earlier this month, Breckenridge police officers arrested a Greeley man who they said was breaking into A Skier’s Edge, a ski shop also located on Breckenridge’s Main Street.Thursday’s burglary occurred the morning of a memorial at the shop for its owner, Chris Ferris, who died Jan. 23 at the Summit Medical Center. Ferris had been transported from his home in Breckenridge by medical emergency officials after complaining of heart pains. He had suffered a long illness before his death, friends said.
