The Dillon Dam Brewery recently tapped a new beer, Playa Nieve Chili Lager, a light, refreshing Mexican-style lager brewed with roasted anaheim, poblano, serrano, habanero and jalapeno peppers for a slightly spicy, flavorful, drinkable chili beer. This brew is well complimented by a squeeze of lime or a pepperoncini and weighs in at 5.3 percent alcohol by volume.

Breckenridge makes Brews Wayne for Comic Con
For the third year in a row, Breckenridge Brewery has teamed up with Denver Comic Con to craft a super beer for the masses. The three-day comic book and sci-fi convention is slated for Friday, June 13, through Sunday, June 15. “Brews Wayne,” the official 2014 Denver Comic Con beer, will be unveiled on Friday, May 30, at The 1up Colfax.
The limited-release Brews Wayne is a hoppy amber ale, a hybrid-style with two distinctly different, yet complimenting flavors. This full-body amber ale has an herbal and floral punch of aroma with woody undertones. With a hearty malt base and lively hop character, Brews Wayne is the perfect beer for the playboy by day and superhero by night.
The beer’s name, “Brews Wayne,” was selected from more than 1,000 names submitted and voted on by fans. Colorado-based author, artist and video game developer Josh Viola, accompanied by comic book artist and illustrator Aaron Lovett, created the commemorative pint glass and tap handle art for Brews Wayne. Viola is most well known for his novel “The Bane of Yoto” but has also worked as an art director for Leviathan Games and been a featured artist on FEARnet.
The Brews Wayne debut party at The 1up Colfax, 717 E. Colfax Ave. in Denver, will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 30, and feature live music from Total Ghost, Sundown Social and DJ Ginger Perry. The first 200 fans to arrive will receive one of the limited-edition pint glasses. Artists, Josh Viola and Aaron Lovett, will be at the party to unveil the commemorative art. Breckenridge Brewery will provide samples of Brews Wayne to attendees and have their photo booth on hand to capture every moment. In addition, Geek Street Society will be in attendance remote hosting their radio show.

Breckenridge Brewery has been a partner with Denver Comic Con since the event’s inception in 2012. The three-day event, which covers the exciting world of comic books, film and gaming, will bring 75,000 fans to the Colorado Convention Center this year. The convention is a fundraiser for Comic Book Classroom, a charitable organization that applies pop culture to alternative approaches to literacy, learning, and character development.
Green Flash debuts Road Warrior IPA
This month, Green Flash debuted Road Warrior, an imperial rye India pale ale that is brewed and named to pay tribute to the brewery’s tireless national sales team. The hoppy recipe was derived from a popular brew from the 2013 Hop Odyssey series (simply called Imperial Red Rye). This year, Road Warrior is being introduced for the first time as one of the brewery’s three “seasonal” offerings, with availability from May through August.
With a bold flavor profile and 9 percent alcohol by volume, Road Warrior is not a typical summer release, but instead offers the consumer a quintessential “occasion beer” as an alternative to craft’s current lawnmower beer craze. True to form, Green Flash relentlessly champions the spirit of craft beer innovation and adventure with the release of a beer for summer that would be wholly satisfying in any season. Sierra Nevada Beer Camp kicks off in July
Beer lovers across the country are packing their bags for the Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. Beer Camp Across America, an epic traveling beer festival that will take place later this summer. Sierra Nevada has invited every craft brewery in the country (yep, all 2,800 of them) to attend and pour their beer at one of seven stops on the tour: Chico, Calif.; San Diego; Denver; Chicago; Portland, Maine; Philadelphia; and Mills River, N.C. This monumental event promises to be the largest craft beer celebration in history.
As part of the Beer Camp adventure, Sierra Nevada has made a collaborative 12-pack — 12 different beers, 12 different breweries, one box. Never been done before. The Beer Camp Across America variety pack features collaborations with a dozen of the darlings of craft beer: Allagash, Ballast Point, Bell’s, Cigar City, Firestone Walker, New Glarus, Ninkasi, Oskar Blues, Russian River, 3 Floyds and Victory, plus a beer from the Asheville Brewers Alliance. It’s also the first ever to contain both bottles and cans. These brewers, and their beers, will join selective legs of the festival tour.

Each festival will feature up to two beers per participating brewery, food vendors and live music by the MarchFourth Marching Band spectacle. Major Tom’s American Wheat going seasonal
The Fort Collins Brewery has announced that Major Tom’s American Wheat will transition from a full-time brew into a summer seasonal beginning in August. The unique creation, infused with real pomegranates and filtered to a bright finish, has been a part of the brewery’s full-time lineup for the last nine years, and the namesake holds a special meaning to brewery co-owner Tom Peters.
To keep up with the growth of the brewery, Peters sold his private airplane in 2004 to fund the brewery’s first packaging line. The brew, a favorite of Peters’, started in the brewery’s tasting room and, shortly after, was introduced to the full-time lineup. To commemorate the occasion, it was rightfully named Major Tom’s.
“Major Tom’s has become a defining brew for us over the last number of years,” Peters said. “As the days get warmer and the time for flying gets longer, Major Tom’s popularity spikes significantly, (so) we feel the transition into a summer seasonal makes sense.”
