Brian Blanche: President not trying to improve economy

Our president’s approach to the financial crisis is clear evidence that he is not interested in solving it. The man is too smart not to understand that higher taxes on business and the rich can only result in business and the rich making fewer investments and hiring fewer workers. Higher taxes means higher prices which we all pay, rich or poor, but then there are more poor than rich, so where does that get those he purports to champion?

History clearly shows that government’s role in doing anything results in a flawed product and waste of resources. The president’s social agenda is chock full of incentive-killing measures. Extending unemployment benefits for instance, while seemingly kind to those who have lost jobs, provides no incentive to find jobs. Most who get laid off often wait to find work, basically vacation until benefits are almost exhausted, before seeking new employment. With extended benefits, laid-off workers can vacation some more. Keeping people dependent on government instead of themselves is the approach of those in power to keep that power, but it is an approach that doesn’t really help people in the long run and one that will backfire.

This president could have been a model for bringing people together, but instead his demonizing the business world and everyone else who disagrees with him has done more to separate people than anyone before him. He is still demonizing his predecessor, something no respectable president has done before. He is indeed a failure who is doing great damage to this country and I only wish we could recall him now instead of three years from now.
