Brianne Snow: Concerned about Wildernest area road closure

Brianne Snow

I am writing in regard to the article bout closing Buffalo Road down for three months titled “Some Mesa Cortina residents worried about summer road closure above Silverthorne.”

Some? And how about Wildernest residents? I think it would be tough to find anyone living up there who did not have concern over closing one of two accesses into and out of this densely populated area in the middle of fire season – for three months.

As Ms. Brockmeyer stated in the article, this decision is one that seems to “blatantly disregard human safety” – and further, the safety of our property, pets and the place we call home.

As far as the “added security of an emergency Interstate 70 on-ramp” – that is nothing more than a blocked-off dirt driveway that serves no purpose as you would have already had to escape Wildernest and Mesa Cortina to access it. This should not be counted as any sort of security measure – or escape route.

As a resident, I am extremely disappointed and worried to hear about this. I realize that work needs to be done to the road, but it seems as though the safety of residents would come first. Is there not another way to remedy this??
