BRECKENRIDGE – In 1999 Dwight Brill, a member of the Breckenridge community for 20 years and a 15-year Breckenridge Ski Resort employee, lost his battle with recurring cancer. Brill’s boundless energy and passion for life touched each person who met him. Motivated to carry on this amazing spirit, his friends and co-workers created the “Celebration of Life” Memorial Fund. This memorial fund reflects Brill’s character by assisting Breckenridge Ski Resort employees by providing – financial assistance in times of crisis. Each year, the volunteer board of directors hosts a fundraiser to help support the Memorial Fund in Brill’s name. This year, that fundraiser takes place Friday at 6 p.m. It will be held at the Bergenhoff Restaurant at Breckenridge Ski Resort, located at the base of Peak 8. Cost to take part in this event is $10 per adult and $5 per child 12 and under with all proceeds benefiting the Memorial Fund. Tickets are available in advance at the Breckenridge Ski Resort Human Resource Office, located at Peak 8, and at the door on the evening of the event. This year’s fundraiser carries a Mexican Fiesta theme, and includes a silent auction complete with gear, household necessities and getaways.The Dwight Brill “Celebration of Life” Memorial Fund was established to provide financial support and other services to Breckenridge Ski Resort employees faced with a crisis. Allocations are distributed to employees based upon applications for funding received and evaluated by the board of directors. Approximately $95,000 has been raised in the first eight years of the program and more than $75,000 has been awarded to employees in need.The fund is a non-profit, self-funded entity operating under the guidance of The Summit Foundation.
