Bring home a cat Saturday

SUMMIT COUNTY – Cats are taking over the Summit County Animal Shelter near Frisco and in an effort to find these felines a home, visitors may be able to take home a pet same-day this Saturday.Donna Taylor with the animal shelter encouraged folks who are interested in same-day adoption to bring in other pets from the home to see how they interact. Also needed are proof of current vaccinations for other pets in the home. Renters should stop by the shelter before they plan to adopt to get a property-owner agreement, which then needs to be signed by the landlord. Each cat has been spayed or neutered and has a microchip along with current vaccinations and recently has been seen by a veterinarian. The cost is $85 to adopt, yet on Saturday cats aged 9 and up will be $55. The same discounted price will apply to cats adopted by senior citizens.A volunteer at the shelter, Marilyn Fenner, recently adopted a cat. She said in a follow-up survey, “I have someone to talk to in the morning and I have a companion when it is quiet at night. She sleeps with me and keeps me warm.”Taylor said cats are great pets for people who live by themselves or who must take short trips away from home. The Cat-Adopt-A-Thon will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the shelter.Call (970) 668-3230 for more information.
