British love songs invade Ti Amo

Kimberly Nicoletti

FRISCO – British love songs by Andrew Lloyd Weber replace the usual Italian background music at Ristorante Ti Amo every other Sunday through Sept. 1 as dinner theater comes to Frisco.”Tell Me on a Sunday,” which tells the story of a young British woman who travels to America seeking romance, opens at 6:30 p.m. at Ristorante Ti Amo. The one-woman show will alternate with “Lies & Legends: Songs of Harry Chapin” every Sunday.Kelly Renoux plays Emma in “Tell Me On a Sunday,” a story told entirely by song. Renoux sings of Emma’s happiness and her heartbreak as she travels from New York to California and back again in her search for love.”The audience is going to be amazed that one woman can end up filling the stage with these other people,” director Jeremy Cole said. Renoux interacts with pieces of clothing to represent her mom, best friend and the men in her life.”Tell Me On a Sunday” began as a cycle of love songs Weber wrote, and he later added a plot to them while working with a lyricist.”If people love Weber’s music, they’ll love this,” Cole said. And, for the “Bridget Jones’s Diary” fans out there, Renoux said the play has similarities, as Emma makes mistakes in dating and must deal with the aftermath.”You get to really know one character in depth,” Renoux said. “It helps you relate to her and see how she reacts to situations everyone else has been through.”Tickets to the dinner theater are $48 and include a salad, a choice of penne fresche with chicken or shrimp, veal cutlet or spaghetti, and a chocolate cannoli with ice cream.
