Broomfield priest found after disappearing on hike

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

BROOMFIELD ” A Broomfield priest has been taken to a Grand County hospital after being rescued following a 30-hour disappearance.

A group of hikers located 62-year-old Monsignor Edward M. Hoffmann late Thursday, but a Grand County rescue team was not able to get Hoffmann back to a trailhead in the Monarch Lake area until early Friday.

Hoffmann had gone out on a long hike Wednesday, but hurt his knee and was unable to walk back to the trailhead. He failed to arrive to officiate a 7:30 a.m. Mass on Thursday, and staff members and parishoners at Nativity of our Lord Church in Broomfield began to worry.

Hoffmann was out of cell phone range and was unable to tell anyone where he was.

Dispatchers said Hoffmann’s only complaint was the injury to his right knee and leg.
