Brush school board caught in recall battle

FORT MORGAN ” Morgan County officials say they’ll decide by Oct. 15 whether the head of the Brush School Board faces a recall election.

Board President Stan Linker has faced and on-again, off-again recall battle since August, when opponents submitted enough petitions to force an election. They claim he hasn’t followed open records laws and district policies and hasn’t collaborated with district personnel and constituents.

More than three dozen people later withdrew from the petition, dropping the number below the minimum, and County Clerk Connie Ingmire said last month the recall for Linker was off.

Recall organizers filed a protest, claiming improprieties in the campaign to persuade petition signers to withdraw their names and saying Ingmire was requiring too many signatures.

Both sides argued their case at a hearing on Wednesday.

Ingmire, County Attorney George Monsson and county Chief Election Deputy Vickie Wiederspan will decide whether Linker faces the recall vote.

Recall organizers collected enough signatures to force a recall election for two other board members, and they are still on the Nov. 4 ballot. They fell short on a third. All three faced the same complaints as Linker.
