Buddy, Colorado pass prices remain same

SUMMIT COUNTY – Returning Colorado and Buddy pass holders won’t see a hike in the cost of their season ski passes for the upcoming season. Nor will Vail Resorts implement any black-out dates for skiing at its Summit County resorts, it was announced Monday.

New pass holders may obtain passes beginning Aug. 23 at various Front Range locations; skiers and boarders renewing their passes can do so online at http://www.snow.com beginning Aug. 26. Pass sales will run through Nov. 3. After that, skiers and boarders will have to purchase a regular season pass.

“It’s an important obligation of ours to keep skiing affordable,” said Martin White, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Vail Resorts. “We’re upholding that responsibility.”

The Colorado Pass features unrestricted skiing at Breckenridge, Keystone and Arapahoe Basin, plus 10 days at Vail and Beaver Creek. The 10 days of skiing at Vail and Beaver Creek can be used any time during the season except for nine days around the holidays, including Nov. 29-30, Dec. 27-31 and Feb. 15-16, 2003.

There was discussion earlier this summer whether Vail Resorts officials would implement black-out dates at the Summit County resorts. Some merchants in Vail complained last season that black-out dates there merely forced skiers out of Eagle County.

The Breckenridge Resort Chamber Board said it is against any Breckenridge Ski Area pass restrictions in light of negative publicity about the statewide drought and snowmaking.

“We don’t need it,” White said of pass restrictions. “We have enough skiing in Summit County to offer unrestricted skiing. If you don’t need restrictions, don’t have them. We’ve passed it on because the numbers indicate they aren’t warranted.”

Pass sales for new passholders will kick off Aug. 23 with the SKI RE sale, an early fall sale on ski and snowboard equipment and apparel at all Colorado Ski and Golf locations, Grand West Outfitters and Boulder Ski Deals. Beginning Labor Day Weekend, the Buddy and Colorado passes also will be on sale at Gart Sports’ SNIAGRAB sale, and at all REI locations on the Front Range, Fridays to Sundays, through Nov. 3.

New pass holders must be present at the time of purchase since a photo must be taken for the pass. For more information on the Colorado and Buddy passes, call the Colorado Sales Office at (303) 504-5870.
