Buena Vista Apple Fest set for Saturday

The 2004 Apple Fest will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Turner Farm, 829 W. Main, in Buena Vista.The event is sponsored by Buena Vista Heritage; free-will donations will be accepted at the entrance to the farm.Entertainment will be provided by the BV Dames, Mountain Minstrels, Dennis Fischer, Randy and Carole Barnes and the BV Harmonizers. Festivities will include croquet, horseshoes, a cake walk, sewing and spinning demonstrations, butter making, log sawing, children’s activities, tractor rides and tours of the farm.A historic walking tour of the W. Main neighborhood will begin at 11 a.m.Baked goods, fry bread, hamburgers, hot dogs, turkey legs and drinks will be available for sale. The Turner Farm gift shop will offer handmade goods and apple-themed merchandise as well as items commemorating the town’s 125th anniversary.At this year’s fest, the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001 will be remembered during the opening flag ceremony at 10 a.m.An historic cemetery tour will begin at 3 p.m. at Mount Olivet Cemetery on Rodeo Road. Admission is $5 a person and benefits Buena Vista Heritage.
