Builders apologize for Parade of Homes signs

Chris Keller, president, Summit County Builders Association

On behalf of the members of the Summit County Builders Association, I apologize to the town of Breckenridge for an apparent violation of its sign code. In the future we will comply with the sign code. After reading the front-page article in the Sept. 15 Summit Daily News, it seems we need to do a better job of educating people on the multiple purposes of the Parade of Homes. Only a very few of the 2,500 people that visit our homes each year are interested in buying or building a home. Most are interested in design and decorating details. Some want to see what’s new in building techniques or learn the names of our excellent suppliers and subcontractors. Others use this as an excuse to visit Summit County and enjoy the fall colors, shop, eat and recreate. While we hope some of these people will eventually become clients, we know that won’t happen unless they enjoy the ambiance and friendliness of Summit County. We promote this friendliness. To this extent we believe we are providing a benefit to the entire community.
