A conversation on business sustainability is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. March 10 at the Backcountry Brewery, and Summit County businesses and organizations are invited.

The presentation, headed up by Garratt Hasenstab, is designed to provide attendees with the tools and methods to develop and implement sustainable business practices in operations. It’s the first in this year’s presentation series held every second Thursday of the month by the Resource for Sustainable Building.

Hasenstab is the principal and director of sustainability for Verdigris Group, a sustainability consulting firm providing businesses, non-profits and governmental organizations with strategies and tools necessary to achieve success in “triple bottom-line organizational practices” – people, planet and profit.

“You’ll learn how to champion easy-to-implement efforts within your organization that will reduce operational costs, improve efficiency, create good-will and make positive change within the community,” a press release stated.

Some of the topics included in the presentation are:

• Top 7 Ways to maximize your office operations’ energy efficiency

• Top 3 Actions to green your purchasing policy

• Top 5 Steps to creating an effective “Green Team”

• Top 5 Tips for evaluating your suppliers for sustainability

• The new rules for successful sustainable branding

• Top 4 “Fringe benefits” of green business practice

• Greening your meetings

• Taking a sustainability survey

“Everyone affects the sustainability of the marketplace and the planet in some way,” the release stated. “Sustainability within a business creates value for customers, stake-holders, and the environment.”
