Summit County locals and visitors have relied upon Recycle Ski & Sport for years as the place to unburden their garages and closets of old gear. Now, Recycle Ski & Sport has become simply Recycle Sport after moving locations and changing ownership. The business was previously located between Walmart and Safeway and is now at 695 Summit Boulevard in Frisco, site of the old Kacey Fine Furniture store. The store reopened in its new location Dec. 8. Former owner and current manager Steve Van Wieringen said the change of ownership and location was due to financial reasons. A notice of unpaid rent in the amount of $46,725 hangs at Recycle Ski & Sport’s former location.Recycle Ski & Sport opened in 2000 and has changed hands several times. Van Wieringen said he bought it over two years ago in August of 2008. The new owners live in Washington and kept Van Wieringen on as store manager. He said he is enjoying his new role and finds it less stressful than owning. To notify Summit County regulars of the change, Recycle Sport sent out mailers with its new address and a coupon for a free hot wax with a $50 purchase.Van Wieringen said the new location has higher visibility, and regulars are giving him positive feedback. He said customers tell him the new building is nicer looking, brighter and well-organized. Many customers have told him its easier to find what they’re looking for. The new location consists of two levels. The downstairs is reserved for ski equipment. Van Wieringen wants customers to know they have not gone out of business.”We have not left town,” he said. “The business is still here – just under new ownership.”
