Small-business open house Saturday

After kicking off the holiday shopping season last week with Black Friday, Dillon businesses are still trying to find new ways to bring in more business.

Several small businesses will host an open house for the public from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Elevation Fitness, 124 Main St. in Dillon.

Doug Roessel, Elevation Fitness owner, said he wanted to gather Dillon business owners together with an event to help promote the holiday season.

“I was talking to a couple of other business owners in the area and we are a little disappointed,” he said. “We’re trying to drive more holiday business into the town of Dillon.”

Roessel said the open house will feature seven local businesses, including his own. Other business will include Summit Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, Cafe ProFusion, Summit Academy of Rock, Paleoleka Grain-Free Granola, The Surf Shop and the A Cafe.

Roessel said he didn’t see much of a boost from Black Friday or Small Business Saturday sales last week, and he wants to “get some buzz” for his town.

“One reason for doing this is Dillon is kind of tucked away,” he said. “We’ve had a pretty good year but we’re trying to do even better and finish strong, and get moving in to the next year.”

The open house will has information tables for the businesses as well as refreshments. Visitors can learn about longtime businesses and some newer ones as well, Roessel said.

Roessel planned the event on his own, separately from the Dillon Business Association. Open house attendees can also win giveaways and try free samples of Paleoleka Granola. For information, call (970) 468-7597.
