Six Silverthorne businesses get to split $43,000 through the town’s new business improvement grant program.

It was introduced in March of this year, with applications made available for the competitive process. Businesses proposed traditional site improvements, such as facade and other architectural upgrades. Businesses could also apply for capital investments that would bring new jobs or other economic development benefits to the community.

Project applications totaled 20 with funding requests of $223,881.

Businesses selected for site enhancement grants include Kaupas Water Labs, Metro Brokers, Red Buffalo Coffee and Silverthorne Power Sports. Neils Lunceford and Vista Auto Group plan to use their funds for economic development projects.

“We were delighted to see the large number of applications come into the grant program in its first year,” said Eddie O’Brien, chair of the Economic Development Advisory Committee. “That really demonstrates the commitment and desire that many Silverthorne businesses have in growing and improving their business.”

Applications were reviewed by the Economic Development Advisory Committee’s executive committee, by request of the Silverthorne Town Council. The committee is a community-based advisory group that was formed by town council to assist in making economic development decisions. Eleven citizen members are appointed to serve two-year staggered terms.

“It’s always tough to choose from a large number of projects, but with limited funds that was our task, and I’m very pleased with the projects that have been approved,” O’Brien said.

The business grant program is one of four new incentive programs Silverthorne introduced this year as a way to address small business development.
