The Climax Molybdenum Company will present the second annual Cajun Crawfish Boil to benefit the National Repertory Orchestra on Friday, June 3. The ultimate Bayou experience will kick off at 6 p.m. at the Riverwalk Center in Breckenridge.

The Lost Cajun restaurant has become a local institution serving up Cajun food outside of the Big Easy. This Louisiana tradition spans from New Orleans and features a large boiling pot full of crawfish, corn on the cob, onions, lemons and lots of cayenne seasonings. All of the ingredients are placed into a pot to boil at once, and, when finished, all ingredients are drained and dumped onto a large table setting covered in newspaper. Ready to eat? Find the largest crawfish and break off the tail. Begin peeling away the crawfish tail, and, when you pinch the bottom, the meat pops right out, similar to a crab. Eat it as-is, or dunk it in butter, ketchup, Tabasco, horseradish or lemon juice.

There will be live music by Tony Trahan and the BlueKrewe, playing swampy Louisiana roots music straight from the Bayou. Like any good Cajun gumbo, the band likes to add some different seasonings to the pot, so while cooking they will add a pinch of zesty zydeco, Cajun injections, some Bayou blues, a bit of Mardi Gras flavoring and a helping of New Orleans funk. Their fan base is always growing, and they turn it up a notch by inviting their “Krewepies” onstage to play scrubboards and percussion.

Tickets purchased in advance are $35 and include crawfish, all the fixings and dessert beignets provided by The Lost Cajun, beer by Broken Compass Brewing, drinks provided by the Breckenridge Distillery, wine from the Gold Pan Saloon and tastings from Olive Fusion. There will also be silent auction items to bid on throughout the evening. Some of the auction items include Vail Resort season passes and tickets to Disneyland.
