Candidates debate in public forum tonight

DAILY NEWS STAFF REPORT

Candidates competing to represent Summit County at the local level and the state legislature will square off in a public forum at 7 p.m. tonight.

Sponsored by the Summit Chamber of Commerce, the Summit Daily News and Our Future Summit, the free forum at the Summit County Community and Senior Center will feature:

– State Sen. Dan Gibbs, a Democrat from Summit County, and Republican challenger Steve Ytterberg of Evergreen.

– State Rep. Christine Scanlan, a Dillon Democrat, and Republican challenger Ali Hasan of Avon.

– District 2 County Commissioner Thomas Davidson, a Democrat from Dillon, and his opponents, Republican Rick Amico from Frisco and independent write-in candidate Don Sather of Frisco.

– District 3 county commission candidates Peggy Long, a Republican; Democrat Karn Stiegelmeier and independent Steve Swanson, all of Silverthorne.

The forum will be moderated by Summit Daily News editor Alex Miller, and audience members will be encouraged to submit questions.
