CASA gingerbread competition on the way

DAILY NEWS STAFF REPORT

BEAVER CREEK – The seventh annual Gingerbread Competition and Auction to benefit CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of the Continental Divide is set for Nov. 27 from 2-8 p.m. at the Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek. Chefs in three categories – professional, amateur and children – will create gingerbread structures and compete for cash prizes ranging from $50 for children, up to $1,000 for professional entry winners. The structures are then auctioned off to lucky bidders who will go home with wonderful holiday decorations for their homes or businesses. Additionally, there will be many other silent auction items on which to bid, as well as cookies, holiday wreaths, personalized ornaments, and gingerbread-cookie-making kits for sale.

CASA of the Continental Divide is a nonprofit organization that trains volunteers who are appointed by the courts in the 5th Judicial District to advocate for children who are abused or neglected. CASA serves children in Eagle, Lake, Clear Creek, and Summit counties. The volunteers work to ensure that the children are quickly placed in safe, permanent homes. CASAs have made a huge difference in the lives of these children, who otherwise may spend years in the foster care system.

To obtain information about the gingerbread competition, or to learn about becoming a CASA volunteer, call the CASA office at (970) 513-9390. or visit http://www.mtncasa.org
