Caution: Work ahead
SUMMIT COUNTY ” More than $36 million worth of Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) highway projects are underway or scheduled for the Interstate 70 West Corridor, on Berthoud Pass and State Highway 9 this summer.
“The beginning of the summer tourist season means we’ve also entered our primary construction season on I-70 and other mountain highways,” said CDOT Region One Director Jeff Kullman.”Several safety and infrastructure improvement projects are on this year’s schedule.”
– I-70 between Georgetown and Empire Junction:
Project includes rotomilling and asphalt paving, new guardrail, shoulder work, signing and striping.
Scheduled completion: August 2006; $4.1 million.
– I-70 through/east of the Eisenhower Tunnel:
Project includes rotomilling, asphalt paving and waterline repairs in both bores of the Eisenhower Tunnel. Cable rail also will be installed in the median from the east end of the Tunnel to Bakerville.
Scheduled completion: October 2006; $3.8 million.
– I-70 through the Eisenhower Tunnel:
Project involves continuation of lighting and electronic sign replacement project in westbound bore.
Scheduled completion: June 2006;
– I-70 east of Silverthorne:
Project includes paving eastbound only from mile 206 to mile 210.
Scheduled to begin and completed in June 2006; $582,000.
– SH 9 Hoosier Pass:
Paving project involves rotomilling and asphalt resurfacing, culvert replacement, erosion control, seeding and mulching. Scheduled to begin in June.
Scheduled completion: September 2006; $2.5 million.
– I-70 between Empire Junction and Idaho Springs:
Project includes ramp widening, lengthening of acceleration lanes, installation of ramp metering components and retaining wall construction at the eastbound Empire,
Downieville and east Idaho Springs entrance ramps.
Scheduled completion: August 2006; $1.7 million.
– I-70 Georgetown Hill:
Rockfall Mitigation project involves installation of cable
netting, fencing and mesh. Scheduled start in October 2006.
Scheduled completion: spring 2007; $1.5 million.
– I-70 west of the Eisenhower Tunnel:
Project includes slope and ditch paving, culvert work, concrete barrier installation and seeding. Scheduled to begin in June.
Scheduled completion: July 2006; $1.1 million.
– SH 9 Breckenridge:
Reconstruction project includes new road surface, new bridge over the Blue River, construction of a modified roundabout at Highway 9, Main Street and North Park Avenue and several intersection upgrades.
Scheduled completion: fall 2006; $5.2 million.
