CDOT could reopen Independence Pass today

Daily News staff report

LAKE COUNTY ” Colorado Department of Transportation is hoping to reopen Independence Pass by today, providing crews can repair the highway after water damaged the road on Wednesday.

Due to the season’s high runoff, water from one or more tributaries feeding into Lake Creek had overflowed into the ditch and under the highway to cause damage to the outer lane.

The eastbound lane is about 50 feet above Lake Creek.

The damage ” about 30 feet in length and six inches into the outer lane ” is located at mile marker 72.9, about 11 miles east of the summit and six miles west of Twin Lakes.
