SUMMIT COUNTY – Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) officials have named Ed Fink as director of its Region 3 operations for the state’s Western Slope.

Fink has been with CDOT for almost 30 years and was promoted from his job as the branch manager for maintenance and operations.

Fink began his career as a maintenance employee in 1974 at the Eisenhower Tunnel and was promoted to tunnel superintendent in 1984. In 1986, he transferred to Aurora as the maintenance superintendent for eastern Colorado and the Interstate 70 corridor from Kansas to Vail.

During that time, Fink helped develop CDOT’s magnesium chloride deicing program and developed a statewide avalanche management program after a CDOT worker was killed in a slide on Red Mountain Pass in southwest Colorado.

In his most recent job, he has developed CDOT’s Maintenance levels of Service Program, a budget allocation tool designed to achieve the best service on roadways, structures, roadside facilities, snow and ice control and traffic services.

Fink holds an associate’s degree in electronics digital technology from the Community College of Denver, is a nationally recognized expert in chemical deicers and serves as chair on the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Snow and Ice Task Force.
