Chabad Jewish Center presents Zvi Bielski today
Zvi Bielski, the son of Zus Bielski, whose heroism during World War II was featured in the 2008 film “Defiance,” will speak Thursday night at Summit County’s Chabad Jewish Center.
During World War ll, Bielski and his brothers Tuvia and Asael established a safe haven for Jews in a Polish forest. The makeshift village eventually sheltered more than 1,200 Jews, whose offspring today number close to 20,000.
“The group led one of the largest Jewish resistances during the war, collecting weapons to destroy German targets until the region was liberated by the Russian army in 1944,” said Rabbi Dovid Mintz of the Chabad Jewish Center.
All three brothers have died, but Zvi Bielski, who lives in N.Y., continues to talk about the experiences of his father and uncles. The lecture will begin at 7:30 p.m., today, at the Chabad Jewish Center, 699 Summit Boulevard in Frisco next to Kacey Furniture.
