Chamber is beneficial

Carla Zinn Rigger, Dillon

I was disappointed to read the comments made concerning the value of the Summit County Chamber by various county leadership. There are many others in this county who are working so that we can achieve a unified vision for the future of the county. It is unfortunate that the statements of the various town managers did not reflect the synergism that is created by working together. Off the top of my head, here is a list of positive actions that can and many are even now being accomplished through and by the Chamber:- Create and maintain a database of county and town market analysis and census research;- Develop an affordable association employee benefits and retirement plan for members;- Bring in expert speakers on important county/town issues to promote open forums; – Develop high school mentoring programs and offer scholarships to students;- Teach grant writing and assist in grant writing for business startups;- Develop and maintain a business information line for referrals;- Clearinghouse for development projects to avoid duplication and redundancy;- Manage advertising for the county/tourism/other business;- Maintain an interactive Summit County website to promote member’s businesses with links;- Research current financial incentives for business and nonprofits;- Give businesses in the unincorporated areas a voice and resources;- Networking and creating a brain trust for resource;- Create a platform to bring divergent ideas and issues for discussion such as the vision for Summit County in the next 20 years; and- Facilitate the 21st century branding of the county. Please let us start to work together rather than continue the destructive competition among entities.
