Charge Denver Water to access the Dam Road

Terry J. Kryshak

I hope our local officials continue to pursue legal action at all cost against Denver Water. Mountain towns are very adept at pursuing these fights and we need to take our stand now.

The second thought I have is on raising funds to build a road to bypass the Dam. There must be multiple places on county and town land that Denver Water vehicles have to pass over to reach their destination.

Let us set up toll gates at these locations and charge a road replacement toll. Be very specific when authorizing the toll so that locals and visitors are exempt from the toll.

Yes, that would mean only Denver Water would be required to pay the toll. I would recommend a substantial fee, say $50,000 per vehicle, cash only. If our state officials truly support our issue, they can help pass similar tolls for state roads. You may chuckle at this idea; but if we need to get Denver Water’s attention, it may mean taking some drastic steps.

There would be no need to discuss this in advance with Denver Water as they have already established the precedent in that protocol.

I understand the threat of terrorism and the need to take precautions, but there is a level of risk a free country must accept to be free. Our troops are not fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq to have Denver Water close the Dam Road; they are fighting there to keep the Dam road open.

Let us keep fighting to re-open our road.
