Cheaper by the page
The stationery needs of an engaged couple may seem simple enough ” pretty invitations, RSVP cards and envelopes with tastebud-friendly glue. But things quickly stack up.
Make sure you are clear on the approximate number of invitations you will be sending out ” order an extra 5 percent ” and remember that other stationery needs (from programs to thank-you notes) can be designed and ordered alongside the invitations, making it cheaper and ensuring a cohesive look to your stationery.
” “Save the date” cards
” Place cards
” Donation cards
” Direction sheets
” Hotel information sheets
” Menu cards
” Ceremony programs
” Rehearsal invitations
” “In case of rain” cards
” Post-wedding brunch invitations
” Shower invitations
” Social announcement cards
” Thank-you notes
” Go through the list and see what items are unnecessary for you. Delete them. The trees will thank you.
” Many items can be “packaged” together. “Save the date” cards, for example, can include hotel information and directions. Invitations can include “rainy day” information as well as post-wedding festivities, and menus and programs can be printed on the same size card.
” Also, remember that the weightier the stock the more your wallet will suffer at the post office counter. Enclosing RSVP notes as postcards will be cheaper in postage than small cards with envelopes.
” Try to order all your paper needs in one order, creating more leverage to bargain with your printer.
” Host a Web site where all the “unsightly” information (from hotels, to directions etc.) can be viewed without creating more bulk for the garbage pail. National wedding Web site providers such as The Knot (www.TheKnot.com) or The Wedding Channel (www.WeddingChannel.com) will host your site for free in exchange for your permission to bombard your e-mail account with wedding-related junk mail.
