Child safety checks this weekend in Silverthorne and Breckenridge

SILVERTHORNE – A child safety seat checkpoint, children’s fingerprinting and photo identifications will be offered this weekend in Silverthorne and Breckenridge.

The Silverthorne police are offering the services from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Phase III of the Silverthorne Factory Stores, behind Wendy’s.

In Breckenridge, the event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday in the F lot across from the Village at Breckenridge.

Inspectors will check to ensure seats fit the make of the vehicle and that they are properly installed. In Silverthorne, needy families may obtain a seat in exchange for a small donation.

In Breckenridge, about 20 car seats will be given away.

In Silverthorne, the event includes a free barbecue and ambulance tours.

Eight out of 10 children’s seats are incorrectly installed, according to police.
