Chris Hughes: Hwy. 9 to Breckenridge getting scary

Chris Hughes
Breckenridge

Since arriving in early December for the best year skiing in years, I have been increasingly troubled by the number of car accidents travelling north out of Breckenridge on Highway 9 just before Tiger Road. There must have been more than 10 recently all in this same spot.

I travel to the slopes each day from Highland Greens on our free shuttle service, and other regular travelers and our drivers have noted many single-car rollovers and spin-arounds. The latest two were on Monday. What is it about the new divided highway that ends just around Fairview Road? Is it the large rut just off the pavement on the left-hand side? Is it the way the road gets plowed? Who is responsible for highway design safety? Someone needs to get moving on this.
