Christian school may get new home

JULIE SUTOR

SILVERTHORNE – The students of Summit County Christian School have been learning, playing and praying in cramped quarters for the past few years. That will change soon if Summit School Board signs a lease tonight, allowing the Christian school to move into the old Silverthorne elementary school building.”This will help us in a lot of ways,” said Tom Williams, a Christian School representative who headed up the lease negotiations during the summer. “It’s much more conducive to education. The classroom sizes are larger, the restrooms are inside, there’s a full playground, a gymnasium and a soccer field for the kids.”Last year, the Christian school teachers held classes at Rocky Mountain Bible Church in Frisco and at Dillon Community Church. School officials had hoped to purchase a building near Farmer’s Korner in the spring, but the deal never came to fruition.”Down the road, we’re still looking for a permanent facility, but this will be a huge step in the right direction facilitywise,” Williams said.Summit School District’s elementary staff vacated the building over the summer to move into a newly constructed school on Hamilton Creek Road.Should the school board sign the lease, the Christian school will share the old building with Summit School District’s Twilight Alternative Education Program for teens. The terms of the lease will not be made public until the lease is signed.Julie Sutor can be reached at (970) 668-3998, ext. 203, or at jsutor@summitdaily.com.
