Cindy Murphy: Winter rec program: Bring it back!!

I am a mother of a second grader at Summit Cove Elementary. I have not spoken to another parent or student in Summit County who is happy this program has been taken away.

My daughter came home from school today with a letter in her Monday folder from another student in her school. It appears it was a class project for a third grader asking the student to write a letter on what they loved most about second grade. The letter starts out:

Dear Second Grader: Welcome to second grade!

First ice skating and Winter Rec was so fun. I like to play hockey. Next we had a popsicle party. We celebrated Mrs. Arnold’s birthday. Last we went to Denver Botanical Gardens. We studied plants in our unit of inquire. Have a nice year.

From, Alex P

The winter rec program was the first thing this child enjoyed about second grade. Let the parents and students decide what they believe would be best for their child. I truly believe my child would write next year on how it was her favorite too. It is a really great outlet and opportunity for our children! Bring it back!
