Clearing up misconceptions

Patti Vos

Thursday’s letter to the editor by James W. Shaw and Dr. Rosanne D. Shaw in support of Sheila Groneman’s candidacy for mayor was so ridiculous and logically inconsistent that I must respond.

The Shaws complain about the fact that so much time has been spent attacking current Mayor Lou Del Piccolo’s leadership style instead of debating “substantive problems facing Silverthorne.” Give me a break! It’s Sheila Groneman’s campaign that has chosen to wage these outrageous personal attacks against Mayor Del Piccolo’s leadership style rather than debate the substantive issues that really affect Silverthorne’s future. The Shaws continue by demanding leadership from public officials and then call for voter referendums to decide all of the difficult issues.

Why have a mayor and council at all? The net result of this approach is that you will get zero leadership from elected officials because they will avoid all controversial issues that require true leadership to resolve.

Lastly the Shaws call for vision, hard work and good leadership from the next mayor of Silverthorne. I couldn’t agree more! The problem is Sheila’s candidacy does none of the above. The truth is, Sheila calls for creation of more legislative bureaucracy to “solve” problems. She wants to decide all of the difficult decisions through voter referendums so that she does not have to make difficult decisions. She provides no platform for leadership. Let’s be honest, Sheila’s “vision” is a recipe for gridlock and inaction.

The bottom line is, if the Shaws really want to see a positive issue-driven campaign and true leadership, they should be encouraging all Silverthorne residents to vote to reelect Mayor Lou Del Piccolo on May 7.
