Cliff jumper dies at Green Mountain Reservoir

A popular cliff-jumping spot at Green Mountain Reservoir turned deadly Sunday when 23-year-old Breckenridge resident Benjamin Oberholtzer did not survive the 60-foot drop.According to Summit County Coroner Joanne Richardson, Oberholtzer likely died on impact with the water and did not hit any rocks. The cliffs are on the west side of the reservoir near the town of Heeney.Oberholtzer was retrieved from the water immediately after impact by a nearby boater, who immediately started CPR and called authorities. Oberholtzer, a native of Pennsylvania who had been in Breckenridge for two years, was pronounced dead at 2:01 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver.
