A new cafe, the Howling Coyote CoffeeHouse, opens today in the Soda Creek Neighborhood Center of Summit Cove.

“I woke up one night thinking hard about doing this,” said owner and Summit Cove resident Robin Avery. “I listened and there were coyotes going off all over Summit Cove. They tend to frequent here. You don’t see them much, but you can hear them.”

According to Avery, there were many motivating factors to open a new coffee house in the area.

“I enjoy making coffee and drinking coffee,” Avery said, “and I wanted a place where people could bring their kids and have a welcoming atmosphere. It’s a friendly place where the community can meet.”

The Howling Coyote is open 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Business hours may change in the next few weeks.

The Howling Coyote serves all the traditional espresso drinks, Avery said, and she’s open to trying new drinks if people have a favorite. Organic tea is also available.

She’ll offer fresh-baked danishes, pastries and cookies, and she hopes to expand into sandwiches and breakfast items.

And it’s not just coffee and caffeine ” Avery offers kid-friendly beverages like smoothies, hot chocolate and hot cider. Local art will also be featured.

Specials are available for the next few weeks. The Howling Coyote’s grand opening celebration is set for May 9.
