SUMMIT COUNTY – The Summit Cancer Support Group is opening its Wednesday meeting about colon cancer and colonoscopies to the general public.

Dr. Jeffery Lee, whose specialty is surgical oncology and endoscopy, will lead the discussion.

“When it’s found early, colon cancer is treatable,” said Joan Davids, the support group’s leader.

Davids said Lee will discuss when people should have a colonoscopy, the prevalence of colon cancer, and he’ll also “touch on the fact that it’s really not a terrible procedure, which is the usual reason why people put it off.”

The presentation will take about an hour.

“This is an opportunity for the general population to learn about colon cancer, screening, cancer prevention, and to ask all there questions about why we do what we do,” Davids said.
