Colorado Mountain College tells students to prepare for simplifications to financial aid process

Students enrolling at Colorado Mountain College and other higher education institutions across the state are likely to see major changes to the financial aid process for the 2024-25 academic year.

In a recent news release, college representatives stated there will be “far fewer” questions on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form compared to years passed, making for a quicker, more streamlined application process. The new form will also be available in 11 languages, including English and Spanish.

Education officials have said the revamped forms could boost the number of low-income students who receive Pell Grants. In Colorado, the number of grant recipients could increase from 14,128 to 25,465, according to an estimate from the U.S. Department of Education.

While the financial aid form has been made available on Oct. 1 in past years, the Education Department has yet to release it this year. Applicants who don’t qualify for federal aid can also apply for the Colorado Application for State Financial Aid, which provides state subsidies.
