Colorado State Forest Service seedling trees available

Daily news staff report

Summit County Extension is now accepting applications on a first-come, first-serve basis for low-cost seedling trees and shrubs from the Colorado State Forest Service Nursery in Fort Collins. The CSFS seedling tree program provides an affordable way to reforest and diversify Colorado landscapes using native seedlings.

Mountain landowners interested in reforesting properties affected by bark-beetle infestation are eligible to purchase seedlings to replant a wide variety of native trees, including lodgepole pine, Engelmann spruce and Douglas-fir. To purchase seedling trees from the CSFS, landowners must possess one or more acres of land (homeowner or neighborhood groups are encouraged to apply), use seedlings for conservation purposes only and agree not to use seedlings for landscaping or resale.

Interested landowners should order as soon as possible, before many species sell out. Seedlings will be available for pickup in Frisco on May 4. For more information or to download an

application, visit, or call the office at (970) 668-3595.
