Colorado’s Springer fire spreading at Pike National Forest in Park County

The Denver Post

A wildfire is spreading quickly in Park County on the Pike National Forest, according to the U.S. Forest Service, just a few miles from where crews just finished containing another fire this weekend.

The new fire, dubbed the Springer fire, has burned about 100 acres, up from about two to four acres estimated at 1 p.m. just after the fire was reported to the Pueblo Interagency Dispatch today.

Currently, the Eleven Mile Canyon has been evacuated and the area is closed.

Homes in the Wagon Tongue subdivision and areas of Lake George are on pre-evacuation orders where residents are asked to be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice.

Forest Service spokesman, Gregg Goodland, said he had no estimate yet on how many homes are in those areas.
