Volunteers needed for breast cancer benefit

SUMMIT COUNTY – Babes in the Backcountry is seeking volunteers to help out with the Breast Cancer Fund benefit Friday, April 4. Volunteers are needed from 6-10 p.m.

Babes in the Backcountry hosts a slide show and video presentation called Betties in Bhutan at 7 p.m. in the Forest Room at the Village at Breckenridge. A silent auction will benefit the Breast Cancer Fund. Tickets to the event are available at Mountain Outfitters and Wilderness Sports. For more information on the event, call (970) 453-4060.

Colorado Field Ornithologists to meet in Frisco

FRISCO – Colorado Field Ornithologists (CFO) will hold its 41st annual convention in Frisco June 6-8.

The convention offers numerous birding field trips, a scientific paper session, exhibits, banquets, evening programs and other special activities.

The public is welcome, but there is an admission charge. If you are interested in birds, this is the event for you, CFO officials said.

Colorado native Dr. Van Remsen is keynote speaker and will present “Our Lost Natural Heritage: Searches for the Ivory-billed Woodpecker” on Saturday, June 7.

Summit County Libraries offer book amnesty in exchange for food

SUMMIT COUNTY – To celebrate National Library Week April 6-12, the Summit County Libraries are offering amnesty for fines and lost books to patrons who bring in food for the Summit County Social Services Food Bank.

“Food for Fines” gives amnesty for people bringing in food suggested by the Food Bank Wish List.

Bring food between April 6 and 12 to any of the three libraries, the Main Branch at the County Commons near Frisco; the North Branch, 651 Center Circle, Silverthorne; and the South Branch, 504 Airport Road, Breckenridge.

The Food Bank Wish List is: chili, meat and vegetarian; pinto beans, dry; refried beans; rice; tortillas; canned vegetables (corn, green beans, peas, canned potatoes); instant potatoes; canned fruit; crackers, Saltines; macaroni and cheese; Top Ramen; spaghetti and sauce; can openers; canned tuna; canned chicken; canned ham; canned juice; peanut butter; cereal; dry stuffing mix; hearty soups; canned ravioli; canned spaghetti; canned Spaghettios; boxed meals (Tuna Helper, Chicken Helper); and boxed pasta salad mixes.
