Summit Sheriff hosts state POST meeting
BRECKENRIDGE – Sheriff Joe Morales will host the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) board meeting today – an event that will bring numerous sheriff’s officers and attorneys to the county.
Board members include Colorado Attorney General Ken Salazar, Deputy Attorney General and former 5th Judicial District Attorney Mike Goodbee, sheriffs from Larimer, Jefferson, Garfield and Pueblo counties and Castle Rock; police officers from Arvada, Denver, Lamar, Durango, Fort Collins and Colorado Springs; and representatives from the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People, Federal Bureau of Investigation and state public safety office.
They will discuss arrest control, firearms and law enforcement driving and criminal history background checks for basic training academy applicants.
The meeting is open to the public and will be held at the Community and Senior Center in Frisco from 8 a.m. to noon.
Battle of the Bands to profile diverse local talent
BRECKENRIDGE – The Blue River Series of the Breckenridge Music Festival will draw an assortment of local bands and solo acts to the Riverwalk Center to compete head to head in a Battle of the Bands at 7 p.m. June 6.
Music genres will range from acoustic rock, heavy metal, punk and funk to good old rock ‘n’ roll.
Participating bands include The Void, Rage Against the Korn Bizkit, Nick Haley, Remedy for Ruin, AJ Connection, Funky D, Special Ed, Mellow Mood, The Stimulants, Ocote and Dela Hoyas, Dr. Neptune, Swamp, TRO and National Blacklist.
Each band will play for approximately 10 minutes. A panel of judges – Summit County School District music teacher Sal Mancini, Krystal 93 DJ Megan Keys and Blue Spruce Inn open mic host Leon Littlebird – will determine the winners.

Join a watercolor workshop at
SUMMIT COUNTY – A watercolor painting workshop with Ann Weaver is scheduled for July 19-20 at Francie’s Cabin. Come and enjoy a fun and relaxing watercolor painting workshop in the high alpine environment of the Crystal Creek drainage. Summit Huts seeks chair for Backcountry Ball
SUMMIT COUNTY – The Summit Huts second annual Backcountry Ball is planned for Oct. 18. Summit Huts is looking for someone interested in volunteering to be chairperson.
This person should be interested and involved in the Summit Huts association. This position would involve a few hours a week to help coordinate this large fundraising event.
